During his stay in Debrecen, the new Belgian Ambassador to Hungary, Jo Indekeu visited the University of Debrecen.

Jo Indekeu has been holding his present position since 2011 and he finds it important to get to know not only Budapest but also places other than that in Hungary. In Debrecen, he met Deputy Rector Zsolt Páles and they had a cordial discussion about the history, the education profile and the future plans of the university as well as about the reformation of the Hungarian higher education and its effect on the University of Debrecen. According to him, the universities in Hungary might compensate the expected drop in the number of Hungarian students by attracting more foreign students, thereby advancing the internationalization of the Hungarian higher education. He was glad to see that there is both French and Dutch language training at the university and he offered his support in further strengthening the cooperation. At the moment, the University of Debrecen has 40 cooperation agreements with Belgian universities.
