Hungarian Blood Glucose Measurement Device Among the 25 Best Medical Inventions

According to Forbes Magazine, four Hungarian teams are among the top 25 in the InnoStars Awards competition. They have been selected from more than a hundred European candidates.DiabTrend is the common project of the Havlik brothers and it develops an algorithm for diabetics that helps predict blood glucose level so that the user can easily create their special lifestyle and diet.

Apart from DiabTrend, there are three other Hungarian teams among the 25 best startups in the EIT Health competition:

  • Clavicont has developed a tool to create a neurological and a psychological diagnosis. The device can also show the initial symptoms of Parkinson’s disease.
  • Spicy Analytics is a medical database startup, which deals with data analysis and modeling based on complex data. Spicy Analytics also deals with sophisticated methodologies, market research and application development, and it supports clinical researches, too.
  • HepC is fighting against Hepatitis B and C.

 

The competition will be organized under the EIT Health Program, with the support of the European Union, namely the European Commission and the European Institute of Technology. The selected applicants can take part in mentor programs and trainings, and they will receive nearly 8,000 euros of non-refundable support for business development and they will be prepared at the Instituto Pedro Nunes incubator in Coimbra, Portugal.

The final turn of the competition will be held in November, 2018 in Budapest. The best 6 teams will be invited to the finals where the jury will select the top three, who will win a total of 60,000 euros. The winner will receive 25,000 euros, the second will get 20,000 and the third will receive 15,000 euros to develop their prototype.
